Our local government politicians represent us to the Government and they also represent the Government to us. In a similar way, Jesus is a key figure in the annals of history, he represents us to his Father and represents the Father to us.
In this passage, Jesus is:
- heralded in or announced by a messenger – by John, the last old testament prophet (like Elijah)
- baptised in the Holy Spirit by John (he is sinless and does not need his sins forgiven but in his human body he goes through what sinners go through)
- announced by God his Father
He is sent from God to say repent and believe in Him and receive everlasting life in his Presence. He is our only Saviour.
